  1. This is a great question! The UK has been contributing to the growth of electric vehicles for the last five years. The UK government is offering incentives for consumers to purchase electric vehicles (EV), and by 2015, the UK should have more than 10,000 EVs on the road.

The government is even planning to introduce a ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars from 2040! This is big news, and many car manufacturers are now investing in electric vehicles.

The growth of EVs is the result of many factors, starting with the development of batteries, reduction in prices and improvement in life expectancy (up to 500,000 miles), all the way to environmental awareness, and the desire to reduce fuel costs.

  2. The most popular electric car in the UK is the Nissan Leaf and it has been selling well ever since its launch. The next most popular electric car is the BMW i3, followed by the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

The total number of electric cars sold in the UK has gone up by 86.5% in the past year, and there are over 20,000 of them on the roads.

People are becoming more aware of the environmental damage that is caused by gas-powered vehicles, so the number of electric cars is expected to rise in the future.

  3. The use of electric vehicles has seen a considerable growth in the last few years in the United Kingdom.

Take a look at the statistics provided by the Government, the use of electric vehicle has increased by 45% in just one year.

According to the figures published by the Department for Transport, there were 3,739 electric vehicles in the country in 2013. Though this figure shows an impressive increment, it pales in comparison to the 152,000 vehicles that were running on petrol and diesel.

As per the recent updates published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, almost 7,500 electric vehicles are currently in operation in the UK.
