  1. Yes, you can. You will be able to start Nissan LEAF* while charging at a public charging station. Nissan LEAF will continue charging while you start the vehicle. During this time, the vehicle will consume electricity from the charger. While Nissan LEAF is starting, you can press the brake pedal to start charging. If you don’t press the brake pedal, charging will start automatically when the engine is running (Note: To automatically start charging when the engine is running, you must enable the “Automatic Charging” setting on the EV Controls menu).

When Nissan LEAF is charging, you can start the vehicle by pushing the On/Off button on the EV Controls menu. The vehicle will immediately stop charging. If you want to stop charging, just press the brake pedal.

  2. Yes, The Nissan Leaf can be started while charging, but it can only be charged while the engine is running. This is a limitation of the DC charging standard. You can only charge at “trickle” or “3-phase AC” rates when the engine is running.

You can charge faster if there is an additional AC charging station available or if you have a portable charging station on board. In order to be able to charge while driving you need an active cooling device that requires a large amount of energy.

  3. You should not attempt starting the engine while the car is connected to a charger. The Nissan LEAF will not attempt to start until the battery is charged to at least 75%. The vehicle displays a warning in the driver information display and the charge trip odometer does not increment if the vehicle is connected to a charger.

If you push the Start button while the vehicle is connected to a charger, the charge socket indicator will flash and the horn will sound 5 times. Wait until the charging process is complete before attempting to start the Nissan LEAF.
