  1. If a car is parked for a few hours, it will lose about 10-15% of charge.

This will obviously depend on the car, the temperature and how long the car is parked.

Moreover, if you are using a wall charger to charge your car, it might take a few hours to fully charge the car, depending on the capacity of the charger. That’s it!

  2. The technical answer is NO, electric cars do not lose charge if parked for a long period of time. However, practicality is another story.

If you leave your electric car plugged in for a long period of time, it might not be fully charged when you need it to be.

If you plan to park your car for more than a week, it’s a good idea to disconnect the charging plug and put a note that the car is charging on the windshield to avoid theft.

  3. The new battery technology of electric cars means that they lose less charge when parked compared to previous battery technology.

This is because they use nickel metal hydride or lithium ion battery technology instead of lead acid battery technology. Although lead acid batteries are better at storing a charge, a large quantity of lead acid batteries were required to store enough electricity to power an electric car.

The new nickel metal hydride is much more efficient, meaning that less of them are needed to store the same amount of energy.

These new batteries also charge up much quicker than lead acid batteries, which further reduces the amount of time wasted when parked.
