Rivian is working diligently to arrange manufacturing of its all-electric pickups, the R1T pickup, R1S SUV, and the Amazon Delivery All-Electric, all of which are struggling to maintain their full production capacities due to the supply chain headaches that all are facing now, but that has not stopped the company from looking ahead for the next steps. Rivian raised $2.85 billion during 2019, with four big investments including an investment from Ford of $500 million in April, who plans to utilize Rivian skateboards for the new battery-electric car, and an investment round from T Rowe Price worth $1.3 billion announced in December, with plans for R1T trucks and R1S SUV R1S SUV in production by late 2020.
Less than two weeks ago, Rivian Automotive, an electric truck manufacturer, was held accountable for the quarterly losses reported by both Amazon and Ford Motor Co., both of whom invested billions of dollars, only to have Rivians stock plummet at the beginning of the year. This week, the electric truck maker Rivian Automotives share price plunged even more with a report that Ford is divesting itself of 8 million shares of the company. The plunge was much steeper than the 31% decline Tesla’s stock has seen in that same time frame, and the 38% decline for Ford Motor Co.
The shine was lowered even more on Monday for electric truckmaker Rivian Automotive, whose IPO in November was the biggest in 2021 and sixth-largest IPO in US history for a November. Rivian was able to bring its R1T to market earlier because it did not have to contend with in-house engine development, testing, and deployment.
The R1T pick-up proves Rivian has what it takes to disrupt the EV industry. Based in Irvine, Calif., Rivian is a start-up maker of electric trucks and commercial delivery vans, challenging both established carmakers such as Ford and GM, as well as EV leader Tesla. The sale of its stake comes just as the first group of customers get their hands on the company’s proprietary version of an electric pickup, the Ford F-150 Lightning.
The headaches over the deliveries for startup Rivian Automotive did not get as much attention as the company’s pared-back manufacturing plans in California, or its confusing messaging about vehicle price increases, which it initially announced in broad strokes, then reversed after a negative reaction from existing reservation holders. Note that Rivians R1T electric pickup is a 400-volt vehicle, so it would not take the higher rates that we are starting to see with new models, but Rivians says the current rates will rise as part of an over-the-air upgrade. You can probably make do with this amount of energy in your own vehicle, but considering that the largest battery pack on Rivians R1T electric pickup is 135 kWh with a 314-mile range, fully charging can take over 19 hours (Rivians estimates that each charge is about 16 miles per hour).
Rivian Car Models
Rivian is a car company startup focused on making an electric SUV and trucks that are distinctive. While Rivian has made some R1S SUVs, they are now making 100x as many R1T pickup trucks, which is what we are looking at here. Rivian has taken, not only the EV world, but the entire automotive world, by storm with the Rivian R1T pickup.
Following the success of the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, U.S.-based EV startup Rivian is planning to release another six models through 2025. The six new fully electric models consist of models that Rivian will manufacture under the Rivian name, but the company has said that it plans to also license its skateboard-style EV chassis to other carmakers, in order to make products that do not compete directly with its own models.
Just this year, both Amazon and the Ford company invested heavily into Rivian Automotives brand, greatly increasing the automakers manpower. Seeing the attention the brand was getting, and the draw that it had, investors started to throw money at the auto company. With its emphasis on creating autonomous electric vehicles, the Rivian Automotive brand is looking to leave its mark on the industry.
About ten years ago (April of 2009, to be precise), Robert Scaringe threw the wheels into motion for what is now called the Rivian Automobile brand. The coming years will determine whether Rivian Automotive is capable of producing, at competitive prices, the type of high-mileage, long-lasting SUVs and trucks founderR.J. Scaringe envisions for the consumer car market.
Largely unknown outside automotive circles, Rivian Automotive has not sold any vehicles. An electric vehicle startup that has never produced ICE vehicles, Rivian produces delivery vehicles for Amazon as well as two passenger vehicles, the R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck. Rivian Automotives’ SUV model, called the R1S, looks like the Land Rover-made Range Rover, competing against Tesla’s Model X. Rivians electric pickup model is called the R1T, and has a shorter flatbed compared with Fords 150, the best-selling pickup truck from Ford, The New York Times noted.
Official numbers are not out for the R1T pickup, but Rivians claims that it can achieve the zero-to-60-mph sprint in less than three seconds. Testing has allowed the team to get even more accurate in delivering Rivians R1T times.

Rivian Cars Features
The R1S SUV is a well-rounded package, offering a comfortable cabin, excellent range, powerful performance specs, and plenty of technology features. In its standard form, the Rivian R1S is a five-seater, but you can add a third row as an option, making it a seven-seater. The Rivian R1S is available with either a five-seater or a seven-seater configuration, but as with any good SUV, these back-seat rows fold completely flat.
This different construction gives the R1T seats for five passengers in two rows, whereas the Rivian R1S has seven seats across three rows. Really, the only significant difference is the way that the R1S is a normal SUV, whereas the R1T is a truck – complete with a load floor just outside of the passenger area. The Rivian R1S 135kWh shares most of its exterior styling with the R1T, but the back highlights the functional-oriented design that conveys ability and utility, with ample room for passengers and equipment.
Its second-model exterior dimensions are comparable to a Jeep Grand Cherokee L, but with the space-efficient design, Rivian R1S is likely to provide considerably more cargo space. A major differentiator is the 2022 Rivian R1S Explore, which has greater off-roading ambitions than Tesla’s Model X, while aiming for comfort and luxury on the roads. The Rivian R1 features a panoramic glass roof, a rather interesting feature for an off-roading SUV that is likely to spend some time out in the desert.
The video also shows off the majority of the Rivian R1S SUVs interesting features, like its adjustable riding wheel, twin-piece rear hatch, panoramic glass roof, as well as such tricks as the air compressor, removable speakers, and the integrated lights into the drivers side door. Rivian is also going to offer a 12-volt cooler in the front trunk in the R1T pickup, and I do not see any reason it would not be offered in an R1S SUV. Thanks to its combined output, R1S SUVs can reach 60 miles per hour from a standing start in less than three seconds, if you opt for the correct battery configuration. The best that can be squeezed out of a SUVs batteries is 328 miles range, a much smaller number than Rivians. The waiting has affected deliveries of the Rivians R1T (truck) and R1S (SUV) models equipped with a max battery pack, which offers 400 miles on a single charge.
Rivians Advanced Quad-Motor System features one electric motor per wheel, and peak performance figures are something to be excited about. The Rivian vehicles also have a four-motor system, which delivers 147kW of power to each wheel, with accurate torque vectoring, which allows for maximum performance under all conditions, from high-speed cornering to low-speed rock climbing. Rivians quad-motor powertrain also features independent air suspension with six inches of vertical adjustability, which lowers Performance. the Rivian R1S to enhance aerodynamics while cruising the freeway, while raising it to achieve additional ground clearance while off-roading.
PANEL- The basis for both R1T and R1S is the Rivians signature skating platform, which houses its riders. You can still place your $1,000 reservation in order to be placed on one of two trim levels for the R1T pick-up.
Rivian Cars Technology
According to the Q4-2021 Financial Report, Rivian announced it continues to make significant investments in the development of the next-generation vehicle platforms and vehicle technologies. Rivian announced that it had built more than 100 pre-production units for its new powertrains by 8 March 2022. Rivian anticipates the start of serial production of the new, single-motor drive units by the end of the year, to first be used in Rivian EDV vans.
In the meantime, it has struck deals to build 100,000 delivery vans for Amazon and provide the technology Ford will use in developing its next-generation electric vehicles. Ford, which has its own plans for releasing an electric version of its popular F-150 pickup next year, has also invested more than a half-billion dollars in Rivian. After participating in two rounds of financing for the startup, Amazon committed last year to buying 100,000 EV delivery vehicles from Rivian by 2030.

Rivians skateboard-like platform houses essential components of the vehicle, such as the electric motor, battery pack, and suspension, all tightly packaged underneath the vehicle’s body, giving it a lower center of gravity than conventional, internal combustion vehicles.
Rivian Car Safety
Rivian issued the first recall of its new popular R1T electric truck for a critical safety issue that affected more than 500 vehicles. The Rivian R1T might still not get an official safety evaluation from agencies such as NHTSA, but a recent accident in California suggests that the fully electric truck is quite the safety car.
A look at the aftermath of the recent crash in California suggests the Rivian R1T had deployed all its airbags as it hit the post. The A-pillars in The Rivian R1T seemed to have held up quite well during a recent crash in California, and, interestingly, the vehicle’s built-in lights on the doors were still working. The Rivian R1T does not have dyno mode, so when Aaron ONeil tried to figure out just how much power it was really making using rolling roads, the car was none too pleased.
We likely will not get to see the Rivian dyno properly run until either Rivian releases an update allowing for that, or until the Rivian R1T gets its own special, custom-made dyno mode. Obviously, a failure caused by mechanical issues may have a major impact when Rivian rolls out a production R1T. While this figure is still low because this is very early in Rivians ramp-up, when a company cannot ship half the vehicles that they produced during a quarter, that is a problem.
Even with suppliers covering recall costs, Rivian produced and delivered just around 1,000 vehicles last year, while in Q1, Rivian produced 2,500 vehicles and delivered around 1,200. As a startup, ramping up after Rivian delivered its first vehicles for the first time last year, Rivian has just a couple of thousand vehicles on the road. A handful were made as test vehicles, but Rivians first production vehicles did not roll off its manufacturing facility until this month. Rivian will be returning 502 of these back to its service facility for customers to swap seats.

Rivian is recalling some of its R1T electric pickup trucks for defective airbag systems, according to a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NORMAL (WEEK) — Electric car manufacturer Rivian has issued its first-ever recall for vehicles due to concerns about front airbag sensors that are not working on some R1T vehicles. Unfortunately, in California yesterday, another R1T, still wrapped in its testing camo, drove over a mound and into a parked Ford Explorer (to far less fanfare) in what appears to be Rivians first accident on a public roadway. The statement that all the safety systems worked as intended is a bit more arcane, since, as with any new car worth its salt, the production Rivian has an extensive standard set of driver assist and accident-prevention features, which did not seem to help in this case — although being a prototype, we cannot tell whether or not all of them were active.

We have already covered how the 2022 Rivian R1T drives extensively, on-road and off-road, on our exclusive first drive, second drive, and, of course, on our 7700-mile Trans-America Trail Overland Expedition, so we are going to keep this pretty short. Having spent more time with the Rivian R1T than with any other publication at this point, we can confirm that the cabin of the R1T is an excellent place to spend time, that the truck is effortless to recharge, and that it is almost unstoppable off-road. The 2022 Rivian R1T is faster than our previous record-holder, the Ram 1500 TRX, not only because it makes more power, but because of how the electric motor delivers that power.
When working in tandem, the R1T pickup has 788 ponies to call upon, which helps it reach the 60-mph mark from a standing start in 4.9 seconds with a smaller battery pack with 105 kWh, 3.2 seconds with 180-kWh (which is bigger, by the way), and a full three seconds with 135-kWh. The Rivian R1T is as capable on performance as off-roading, going from 0-60 miles per hour in roughly three seconds as the sports car, but it can climb rocks or big hills as a Jeep SUV. The futuristic R1T is a fully electric pickup from the upstart US-based brand Rivian, promising 250 to 400 miles range on the highway, with blazing-fast acceleration.
With 3500 pound-feet of torque on the road (14000 pound-feet for the entire car), the Rivian R1T 135kWh and the R1S both reach 60 miles per hour in three seconds, and reach 100 miles in under seven seconds. With a 400+-mile range in electric mode, 1m deep water, locking storage boxes to accommodate bulkier equipment, and performance and precision of four-motor all-wheel drive, Rivian vehicles are designed to help customers go out and explore the world.
